SPLIT
A wonderfully vibrant city and a great place to start your holidays in Croatia. You
can either anchor outside the city or go on the dock, if booked well
ahead. There are a whole range of great things to do in the city if you
wish to explore, the highlight of which is probably the unique Dalmation
palace.
TROGIR
A short hop from Split, this is a truly charming town. There is a
marina here, but its the town quay that’s the place to be, if you fancy
rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous! The town itself is very
quaint, with small winding streets and little shops. There is a
fantastic market too, just a short walk away, where they not only sell
fresh farmers produce but for souvenirs too, including a beautiful
selection of shells.
PAMANZIA
Another very pretty island of Croatia where its still possible to get away from the
crowds. There are very few shops or nightlife but lots of peace and
quiet. It also has a fabulous looking restaurant called Menchello,
which could be a winner for lobster fans! It opened in 1906 and has been
run by the same family ever since. They bring in fresh lobster everyday
and use it to cook a traditional Dalmation dish called regada (lots of
fish and lobster cooked slowly over an open fire).
HVAR
This is the best preserved ancient town in Croatia and has a good
harbour where we can anchor. There are good local fish and seafood and
fruit and vegetable markets, so dinner on board that night can be a
treat! And if the hustle and bustle of the town is a bit too much for
you, there are several small ad quite bays to anchor in nearby, which
are all great for swimming and watersports. However, if you fancy a bit
more nightlife, this is a great place to be, with a number of stylish
bars opened recently.
MLJET
A short distance from Dubrovnik, this is a beautiful national park in Croatia where
you could easily spend a few days. Its a bit of the beaten track and
very peaceful with great views and two beautiful lakes. There are no
shops or nightlife but there are a few rustic restaurants on the waters
edge, selling grilled seafood. It is a perfect place for swimming and
relaxing. You can also hire bicycles and ride to a hidden monastery.
DUBROVNIK
A must! There is a well sheltered harbour away from the main town where
we can stop for a night or two. Walking around the walls of the old town
is the best way to observe the history, local culture etc. The town
itself is full of great restaurants, bars and a jazz bar which is famous
throughout Croatia. There is a lot of Venitian influence, and great
Venetian architecture to see.
